MapOutcomes is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for every person with a disability. We recognize that accessibility is critical for Canadian universities and engineering programs, and we strive to make our Platform as accessible as possible in accordance with the Canadian Standards Association Standard on Accessibility for Information and Communication Technologies (CAN/CSA ISO 30071-16) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
2. Accessibility Standards
MapOutcomes aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. These guidelines include:
- Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive
- Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable by all users
- Understandable: Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable
- Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies
3. What We Do
3.1 Website and Marketing Materials
Our public-facing website includes:
- Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy
- Alt text for meaningful images
- Keyboard navigation support
- Sufficient color contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text)
- Focus indicators for keyboard users
- Responsive design that works across devices and screen sizes
- ARIA labels and roles where native HTML semantics are insufficient
3.2 Platform Application
The MapOutcomes accreditation management platform includes:
- Full keyboard navigation for all interactive elements
- Screen reader compatibility with proper ARIA landmarks, labels, and live regions
- Resizable text up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- Color is never the sole means of conveying information
- Form labels, error messages, and validation are programmatically associated with their controls
- Consistent navigation and operation patterns across all pages
- Reduced motion support for users who prefer reduced animation
3.3 Documents and Exports
Exported reports and documents are designed to be accessible:
- PDF exports include proper document structure, headings, and bookmarks
- CSV exports use standard tabular formats compatible with screen readers
- Tables include headers, scope attributes, and captions where applicable
4. Limitations and Known Issues
Despite our best efforts, there may be limitations in certain areas of our Platform. We are continuously improving accessibility and track known issues in our development backlog. Current limitations include:
- Some legacy third-party components may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards
- Complex data tables with merged cells may present challenges for screen reader users
- Interactive charts and visualizations are being enhanced with additional accessible alternatives
5. Continuous Improvement
We are continuously working to improve the accessibility of our Platform. Our approach includes:
- Automated Testing: Regular automated accessibility audits using tools like axe-core and WAVE
- Manual Testing: Manual testing with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) and keyboard-only navigation
- User Testing: Feedback from users with disabilities during beta testing and product development
- Training: Ongoing accessibility training for our development team
- Feedback Loop: A dedicated process for receiving and acting on accessibility feedback

7. Legal Compliance
As a Canadian software company serving educational institutions, MapOutcomes is committed to meeting accessibility requirements under:

- Canadian Human Rights Act: Prohibits discrimination based on disability
- Provincial accessibility laws: Including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Accessible British Columbia Act, and similar legislation in other provinces
Canadian universities are subject to procurement requirements that mandate WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance for all software purchases. MapOutcomes is designed to meet these requirements from the ground up.
